A Note from an Intern
Coming from Belgium, a country where people tend to take democracy for granted, it has been very interesting to experience what the process of democratisation in Bhutan looks like. As an intern at the Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy, I have had the chance to explore some of the implications of this process.
Be it as individual citizens, civil society or from within the established institutions: I learned that we hold a lot of power in shaping the transformation. BCMD is reaching out to the people of Bhutan in order to make them more aware of their individual strengths and how they, as active citizens, can positively use them in society. We are all connected, and we can all contribute.
If we are able to effectively use our potential and combine our efforts, the future of Bhutan looks bright. Needless to say, the insights I gained here are applicable to my home country as well. And they changed me as a person.
I think I became a more active citizen myself, or I will at least try to be one.
