Civil Society Leadership Summit 2018: Working towards more collaborative culture

 Thimphu, Bhutan, 4 October 2018: As Bhutan prepares to move into next cycle of development planning, civil society organisations feel the need to meet with government counterparts to find creative skills and tools to create sustainable, efficient, and effective practices in their organisations and to continue doing good work for society.

The Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy (BCMD) is organising a Civil Society Leadership Summit, which will bring together 27 members of civil society organisations with decision makers from six government agencies to focus on how to lead the civil society sector. This comes at a time when philanthropic donations are also becoming thinner, and the need for collaboration is imperative for development priorities to be successful. The summit will be held in Paro at the Kichu Resort from 5-6 October.

The purpose of this meeting is to enable both civil society and government decision-makers to discuss and share ideas to enable civil society organisations to be more sustainable and construct a vibrant, resilient, and effective civil society in Bhutan.

The Summit is designed to enable the current and next generations of leaders in civil society to reflect on their current status and how it can build a more collaborative culture. “We need in Bhutan to strengthen the leadership of civil society and work towards building a stronger partnership. This is one of the aims that the summit hopes to achieve,” BCMD Executive Professional Director, Siok Sian Pek-Dorji.

The meeting is open to journalists.
